To measure the bearing capacity of soils we use a plate bearing test and laboratory CBR test. A plate bearing test is used to determine the bearing capacity of the soil, road substrate and aggregate layer on the site. It takes approximately two hours to do one test. To perform a CBR test we take samples from the site and in cooperation with the laboratory of Teede Tehnokeskus AS determine the CBR value. This value characterises the bearing capacity of the soil and it suits well to determine bearing capacity of the lower soil layers during geological surveys.

We use the plate bearing test as well as CBR test results as source data in TensarPave software pavement calculations.
